£4m Regeneration Scheme at South Yardley

Stoford Living has been granted planning permission to develop a £4 million new build and conversion scheme in South Yardley.

The 18,000 sq ft development at Mansfield Road will see the building of 16 new houses and the conversion of Grade II-listed Pinfold barn to two new homes.

The timber-framed outhouse, dating back to the 17th Century, used to be a garage for historic Jowett Cars, which produced the legendary Jowett Jupiter that won Le Mans three years in succession in the early 1950s. It was more recently an automotive tool shop.

Stoford Living has been working with BBLB Architects on the scheme, which also incorporates Pinfold House, an adjoining listed house from the same period. Work is expected to begin on site in Spring 2008.

The Pinfold name comes from the medieval ‘pinfold’, an area in which stray animals were herded and owners had to pay for their release.

Phil McConnachie, Stoford development manager, said: “We are delighted to have won permission to regenerate an area of south Birmingham by providing much-needed new homes and conserving some fine historic buildings.”
