Plans in for Severn Trent
Coventry City Council received the formal planning application for Severn Trent Water’s new Coventry operations centre.
Computer-generated plans and images of the £45-million pound, 170,000 sq ft building have already been on show to the general public.
The seven-storey premises, designed by Birmingham-based Associated Architects and being developed in conjunction with Stoford Developments, is to be built at St John’s Street adjacent to the ring road and is designed to achieve an ‘excellent’ BREEAM rating for its environmental and sustainable features.
Supported by a grant from regional development agency Advantage West Midlands, the building will bring together 1,700 staff to work to the highest levels of efficiency and effectiveness under one roof when it opens in early 2010.
David Brown, Stoford Director, said: “We have been working extremely hard with the architect and the rest of the professional team to ensure that a full and detailed planning application has been submitted to Coventry today. Coventry City Council has been most helpful with its officers’ time spent in pre-consultation matters and we are confident that this exemplary office scheme for Severn Trent’s new operations centre will receive the full approval of the public at large as a flagship development.”
Councillor Kevin Foster, Cabinet Member (City Development), said: "We are delighted that Severn Trent has decided to move to Coventry City Centre and now am sure that local people will be pleased to see that they have plans for an impressive and sustainable new building. When the pans went on show to the public at Developers Forum they were well received and now we have received the planning application Severn Trent is showing their determination to move quickly to relocate here. Its all good news for the city centre which is set to go an exciting transformation.”
