Stoford Drives Launch of Caravanning Club HQ
A new £6 million purpose-built headquarters developed in Coventry by Birmingham–based Stoford Developments was given ministerial approval when it was launched by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MP unveiled a plaque to officially open the new 30,000 sq ft high-tech home of the Camping and Caravanning Club at Westwood Business Park in the presence of the club’s director-general David Welsford, environmentalist and club president David Bellamy and Stoford director Chris Lea.
The Camping and Caravanning Club has created more than 30 new jobs since moving from its previous site on the same business park– and the larger accommodation has enabled it to introduce its new online booking system ClubREZ, as well as grow its club site network through a new franchising initiative.
The eco-friendly building incorporates rainwater harvesting, whereby processed rainwater is used to flush lavatories, in line with the ‘green’ campaign the club is pursuing at its 93 club sites.
Margaret Beckett, a keen caravanner and member of The Camping and Caravanning Club, said “The new headquarters has clearly provided a renewed impetus to the club and is another landmark in its over 100-year history. Even in my short tour of the building, it was easy to appreciate the excellent new facilities and surroundings.”
Chris Lea of Stoford Developments, which has let the nearby property it received from the club in part-exchange to CEL International, said: “We were delighted to be able to develop and fit-out such a prestigious and successful new HQ building.”
Stoford has also been responsible for the new TUI headquarters at Westwood Business Park, bringing to 200,000 sq ft the amount of development it has completed in Coventry over the past three years.
