Stoford Gears Up for DSA

Stoford Developments is to build the first multi purpose test centre for the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), and offices for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in the West Midlands.

The £7million scheme in Granby Avenue, Garretts Green, Birmingham will see the regeneration of a 3.5 acre site to provide an off road test area for would-be motorcyclists being tested by DSA, and a 17,000sq ft office building which will be part occupied by the DVLA following relocation from central Birmingham.

The site, purchased by Stoford from Birmingham City Council, is being developed in association with Advantage West Midlands.

Tony Nash, director of Stoford said it was an important and appropriate addition to the North Birmingham Regeneration Scheme.

“The project has attracted £6million of private sector investment and will create many new job opportunities. The increase in visitor numbers to the area is also likely to stimulate business and commercial activities which is all really good news. We are delighted to be involved in such a significant regeneration initiative.”

Announcing the start of work on site, Tony added: “The 5,000sq m manoeuvring circuit will provide riders with a safe place to have their skills assessed. We expect completion by the end of the year in readiness for the introduction of new motorcycling tests in 2008.”

Rosemary Thew, DSA Chief Executive commented “In 2004 alone, 25,641 bikers were involved in accidents; 585 were fatal. Although accident numbers are falling there are still far too many, which is why this centre is so important. I hope that the Birmingham community will recognise the important role of this centre in supporting road safety and saving lives.”

Car drivers will also be tested from the DSA centre and LGV driving tests are expected to be based there in the future.
