Work has started on site on the building of a six-storey office complex in Bristol for healthcare provider Simplyhealth.
BAM Construction was appointed by property specialist Stoford to build 62,275sq ft Simplyhealth House as a new regional office on a prominent gateway site in a conservation area at Clifton overlooking the Downs at the top of Whiteladies Road.
The project, which is scheduled for completion in August 2013, involves demolishing a former bank building but retaining two levels of basement parking.
Architects Ferguson Mann, who were responsible for the concept, and Webb Gray, for the detail, have designed the new building to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and to meet the expanding needs of the company.
Employees were consulted about the services they would like in the new building and it has been designed incorporating as many of these as possible. Its external materials include natural stone and hand-made bricks in keeping with the location and a conservation area.
David Brown, Stoford Director, said: “Simplyhealth House will be a statement building befitting its prime location with a light and airy interior incorporating clear open-plan floor plates and basement parking for cars, bicycles and motorcycles.
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Simplyhealth and are confident that the building will satisfy its future occupancy needs in Bristol.”
Steve Tapson, regional director of BAM Construction, based in Bristol said: “The Simplyhealth project adds to our portfolio of constructing prestigious office buildings. We are also currently building Imperial Tobacco plc’s World Headquarters in Bristol. It also extends our relationship with Stoford with whom we worked on the Severn Trent Headquarters in Coventry. Being involved in such a high profile, gateway site adjacent to the Downs gives the project an additional quality.”
Simplyhealth House is the second scheme that Stoford has under construction in the South West. The company is nearing completion on a £20 million regional distribution centre for Co-op in Avonmouth.
