Premier Inn likes to be beside the seaside

A new Premier Inn is set to breathe new life into the former Strand Hotel site in Bude, following its sale by leading commercial property developer Stoford.

The consented 55-bedroom hotel site, which occupies a prominent position in the north Cornwall seaside town, was bought by Whitbread and will deliver 25 new jobs and £5 million in fresh investment for the local area.

Gerard Ludlow, director of Birmingham-based Stoford, said: “This is an exciting project which will bring great quality accommodation to Bude in an excellent location.

“We are of course delighted that Premier Inn agrees that the project represents an excellent opportunity to gain a significant presence in one of the South West’s most popular seaside towns.”

John Bates, Head of Acquisitions (South) for Premier Inn, said: “We are delighted to be bringing a brand new Premier Inn to Bude, an excellent seaside location. As well as regenerating the former Strand Hotel, our new hotel will deliver £5 million in fresh investment and 25 jobs year-round for the local area.

“All being well, we hope to start work on site in late autumn for a late summer 2016 completion.”

Stoford is a leading specialist in office, warehouse and distribution development. It has delivered over 10 million sq ft of pre-let development and in 2012 to 2014 had more than 1.5 million sq ft of pre-let space under construction throughout the UK.
