Plans have been submitted for a distribution centre in South Gloucestershire for international parcel delivery company DPD, leading property developer Stoford announced today.
The decision to open a new distribution centre at Vertex Park, Emersons Green near Bristol follows a period of unprecedented growth in the UK for DPD, thanks largely to the success of its unique Predict service. Predict notifies customers of their one hour delivery slot in advance, so that they don’t have to wait in all day for a parcel.
Predict also helped DPD win the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2015 and top customer satisfaction polls by both Which? and MoneySavingExpert three years running.
The new facility is set to create over 100 new jobs and represents a significant investment in the area.
Planning has been submitted to South Gloucestershire County Council for a 68,792 sq ft unit on land owned by Taylor Wimpey. The new unit will include a distribution facility, offices, customer pick up point and van parking.
The new DPD distribution centre, which is designed to achieve BREEAM ‘very good’ standard, is the second project Stoford has worked on at Vertex Park. In December 2015 work began on a new £10 million development for ALD Automotive.
Pending planning permission, work on DPD’s new facility is set to start in summer 2016 and is expected to complete in June 2017.
Gerard Ludlow, director at Stoford, said: “With 56 depots across the country, DPD’s new facility in Emersons Green will further enhance its reputation as the UK’s favourite parcel delivery company.
“Located adjacent to the M4 motorway, Vertex Park is a prime location for DPD’s further expansion into the South West, providing not only excellent transport links but also a strong recruitment pool.”
Louise Ferguson, General Manager of Property at DPD, said: “Demand for our service has increased dramatically in the last five years and this investment in a modern, purpose-built distribution facility will allow us to expand our existing operation in the South West, to meet our growing business needs and create a significant number of new jobs.”
